NAACP Benjamin Hooks dies

Benjamin Hook was the executive director of The NAACP. he died today at 85 from a longtime illness.Hooks was apart of the civil rights movement , you would see him at marches, sit-ins and the “I Have a Dream” speech, he was the leader of the NAACP from 1977 to 1992.

Benjamin Hooks had stressed the idea of self-help among African Americans. He urges wealthy and middle-class African Americans to give time and resources to those who are less fortunate. “It’s time today … to bring it out of the closet. No longer can we provide polite, explicable [easily explained] reasons why black America cannot do more for itself,” he told the 1990 NAACP convention as quoted by the Chicago Tribune. “I challenge black America today—all of us—to set aside our alibis.”

Benjamin Hooks was a role model to many!!
