The NASCAR schedule 2011 made its way for a race at Watkins Glen this past weekend. While the track was wet for Sunday’s race, it got moved to Monday, allowing Marcos Ambrose to finally win the latest Sprint Cup Race.
The latest race was the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips race at Watkins Glen International. It made for a historic day for Ambrose, as it was his first Sprint Cup win in 105 starts. He nearly had a win last year at Sonoma, leading with six laps left, until his car stalled out.
Post-race, Ambrose was clearly excited over the race results, commenting:
“I’ve tried for 2 1/2 years. We’re going onward and upward from here. It’s a proud day.”
Finishing in second and third were Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch. While the day was more about Ambrose’s first big Sprint Cup win, it was not without incident. A violent crash occurred towards the end involving Boris Said, David Ragan and Greg Biffle. Said’s car seemed to just graze the back of Ragan’s, causing Ragan to hit into David Reutimann. Ragan hit head-on into a barrier, and there were some scary moments as drivers got out of their cars or recovered from the carnage.
The good news right now is it appears all of the drivers involved are okay health-wise. Ron Fellows reported a sore neck and breastbone post-race. While everyone may be okay physically, it appears there is still going to be a war waging between Biffle and Said for a bit. Stay tuned as the NASCAR schedule 2011 continues!
