Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied’s baby boy finally has a publicly known name! While the big media outlets (like People) aren’t reporting on the news just yet, other sources are confirming that the new baby is named “Alef.”
“Alef is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It has been said that the letter represents the ‘oneness of God’ and is related to the element of air,” Hollywood Life reports. Interesting – didn’t Portman say she wasn’t going to give her child a non-common name? Perhaps Alef is popular in the Hebrew community, have you ever heard it?
In case you are wondering about the Hebrew ties, Portman was born in Israel. The name is different without being too weird, which isn’t common in Hollywood. If that is the name that the couple chose, it’s kind of nice actually. Any ideas on what he’d be called for short? Just Al maybe?
Hopefully there will be other confirmations of the name soon… and maybe a baby picture or two!
