Nathan Fillion: King of ABC’s Castle

Ever since Nathan Fillion’s days on Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, I’ve been a fan.  And since I love musicial theater it didn’t take a genius to figure out that I was wild about Dr. Horrible’s Sing- Along Blog, which starred not only Fillion but also Neal Patrick Harris and Felicia Day of Buffy fame.

So naturally when Castle premiered on ABC last fall, I tuned in and after a few episodes was hooked.

The show’s premise with Fillion as a bestselling crime novel writer in need of inspiration for a new series of novels seems like an unlikely role for the actor but, with as with everything he does Fillion uses his trademark talent and humor to make the role his own. But Fillion isn’t the only star that shines on this witty crime drama.

Castle shadows, Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) a police detective from New York’s 12th Precinct and her team of detectives as they investigate various cases with the intention of using Beckett as a blueprint for the heroine in his next series of novels.

Castle lives with his mother, Martha (Susan Sullivan) and his teenage daughter Alexis (Molly Quinn) who provide both heart-warming moments and comic relief in between all the murder and mayhem.

Fans love the humor and witty banter between the two characters and wonder whether or not a romance will begin for the two of them.

After being in reruns the last few weeks, Castle returns tonight at 10pm/9c with a brand new episode “Suicide Squeeze” during which Castle and Beckett investigate the death of a former professional baseball player.

The show also seems to be sticking with its story arc of exploring the characters parental issues.  The last new episode dealt with the unresolved death of Beckett’s mother and according to ABC tonight’s episode will also deal with Castle’s paternal issues.

Tune in tonight as this unlikely duo tries to unravel this week’s mystery.
