National 90210 Day! Meaning…

Who knew the 90s were so celebrated?  Well, they are.  Today is National 90210 Day…as in Beverly Hills 90210, the TV show.  Aaron Spelling’s biting teen drama was a smash hit in the 90s (and it seems today as well…ask any modern day teen for proof).  The likes of Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green and Jason Priestley – and, of course, Luke Perry are eternal household names to Generation X-ers thanks to 90210 and its sappy, dramatic and over the top storylines.  And now it seems they have been given their own holiday.  Who knew…

US Magazine caught this Nicole Richie tweet, “BeverlyHills90210Forever.”  Is this a a Beverly Hills inner circle joke mistakenly gone global?

Maybe not, E! is onboard with the festivies too.  You’ll never believe why.  It appears Ryan Seacrest had a guest spot on 90210 way back when.  Ryan’s master plan to takeover Hollywood was launched long before America even knew he was coming.

“In honor of #90210day, I present u with my cameo on ‘90210’ from a decade ago!” he tweeted.  Check out E! Online at 7pm when the Kardashians host a livestream in celebration of 90210.  Whatever that means…

This ‘holiday’ must have some merit because TIME online is talking about it!  Although you can always count on TIME to make it newsworhty.  TIME discusses 90210 Day for the show’s popularity among teens but also for the new 90210’s popularity “with mental health organizations for its portrayal of a main character’s struggle with bipolar disorder.  The Child & Adolescent Bipolar Foundation partnered with 90210 producers to help develop a realistic portrayal of living with this disease.  A previous generation of the show fell on the bad side of the National Alliance for Mental Illness because of a plot line involving a psychotic character who pursued an unrealistic course of treatment.”  Ah yes, this happened post-college years…Kelly’s boyfriend Matt’s ex-girlfriend.  Recall?

Alas, New York Magazine online has the answer to the question…is this a real holiday?  It is!  The mag clarifies, “Today, the calendar has conspired to bring us a rare treat: 90210 day (or 09/02/10 day).”

Clever…
