This will be an intriguing and renewed matchup for the NBA 2011 Playoffs bracket. These two teams hooked up in last year’s postseason, with the Magic able to sweep the Hawks easily, 4 games to 0. Atlanta will be looking to avenge that bitter ending to their postseason from 2010 with this rematch series. They’ve already shown this season they are up for the task, as they have defeated Orlando in 3 out of the 4 games these two squads played.
The stars featured in today’s game will be big man Dwight Howard for the Orlando Magic. According to NBA.com stats, Howard is third most efficient in the league due to his impressive stats. While he’s 11th in scoring with 22.9 a game, he’s #1 in double doubles this past season. Howard is a monster in the paint, as he’s 4th in blocked shots and 2nd in rebounding.
Atlanta’s team stats reveal that they share the ball well with several of its top scorers also getting a good number of assists. The Hawks will rely on the services of top scorer Joe Johnson who gives 18.2 points a game, in addition to 4.7 assists. Josh Smith adds in almost 17 points a game with over 8 rebounds a contest, while Al Horford, Jamal Crawford and Marvin Williams all score in double digits as well. The addition of Kirk Hinrich will give them more depth.
