2012 NBA trade rumors involving a Derrick Williams trade are nothing new, but recently the buzz had been that he was asking for a trade. According to a report there is a bit of truth to it, but the full story is that it is his agent doing the talking.
Apparently agent Rob Pelinka asked the Minnesota front office whether a trade was coming; not in the form of a request to trade Williams. The response from the team was that he should wait for point guard Ricky Rubio to get healthy, especially with how well the pair played together last season.
It’s true that Williams and Rubio played well together and it would be interesting to see if they could do it again this season. If the team has faith in him then that is a huge step in the right direction, especially with how much Williams struggled at the beginning of this season.
Through 14 games, he is averaging 9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season. His shooting percentage is down to just 39.3 from the field, though, which has cut into the numbers of minutes (19.9) he gets per game. The Wolves could really use the offense from him, so waiting for Rubio to get back might just be the right move.
Do you think these NBA trade rumors will turn into anything? Will a Derrick Williams trade ever actually take place?
