New York is sitting on top of the NBA standings with an 8-2 record and the Knicks have done so without the services of Amar’e Stoudemire and that has led to rumors the team could move the big man when he returns from injury.
The biggest reason for the latest buzz is a financial move that would allow the front office to make more moves during this season and next summer. Eric Edelman has suggested the team looks to move their star center to Atlanta for Josh Smith in a move that makes sense for both teams.
Atlanta and Smith have been at odds for the past two years and with the All-Star forward in the last year of his contract, trading him now for something is better than losing him after the season and getting nothing in return.
The Hawks would also get one of the better offensive players in the league as Stoudemire has averaged over 21 points per game in his career. And despite being 30 years of age, he would give the Hawks a boost offensively and someone the team could rebuild around over the next couple of seasons.
Smith has the type of game to blend well with Carmelo Anthony and the NY Knicks could use another star, especially with their quick start and it would create a buzz with the fans and around NBA, something this team hasn’t had for several years.
