NBA Trade Rumors: Toney Douglas Trade By New York Knicks?

The New York Knicks may pull off a Toney Douglas trade in order to bring in another defensive player before the NBA trade deadline. As opposed to what took place last year, the Knicks haven’t been part of many NBA trade rumors this year, with the exception of the random inclusion in a Dwight Howard trade rumor.

According to ESPN, the Knicks are exploring trade options involving Douglas. He was unable to execute a pick-and-roll offense consistently that Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni wanted to use and it led to him losing playing time to rookie Iman Shumpert. Now Douglas has become buried at the end of the bench with the emergence of Jeremy Lin and Baron Davis coming back from injury.

No teams or specific players have popped up in conjunction with Douglas and it shouldn’t surprise anyone if he doesn’t fetch a significant player in return. The Knicks may settle for someone tall who can play behind Tyson Chandler and Jared Jeffries as a third option at center off the bench, especially if the team feels the need to add more depth. It would certainly help if New York could bring in someone else that could block shots, but that may require giving up more than just Douglas.

The New York Knicks were heavily involved in NBA trade rumors last year with the Carmelo Anthony drama taking over the league, which makes it seem odd that the team hasn’t been deeply involved in rumors this year until now.

Do you think that the New York Knicks can find a good trading partner for Toney Douglas? Will the franchise start coming up in more NBA trade rumors as the deadline approaches?
