New Brandy Album Still On Its Way

As any of her most loyal fans may know, the release of a new Brandy album often comes with at least a four-year waiting period in which their patience is tested, her relevancy is questioned and the cloud of mystery surrounding the project seems to grow a little thicker with each passing year.

The shroud of secrecy on the singer’s sixth studio album is so immense that even the signing status on her current record label remains unknown, as does a release date or title for the LP.

With the time slowly passing since her last release, Human, in 2008, the R&B veteran took to Twitter yesterday to confirm that she’s still working on the record.

While this may not come as a surprise to her eager followers, who she spent studio time with on Tuesday may.

“I’m in this studio control room sitting behind the board and the talkback button and [Brandy] is in the booth,” tweeted an exclaimed LaShawn Daniels, songwriter of hits like “Say My Name,” “Lose My Breath” and most importantly, “The Boy Is Mine.”

Daniels’ high-profile writing credits isn’t the focal point though. It’s his ties to super producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, who as seen on Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business, has had a rocky relationship with the vocalist as of recent.

The fact that Daniels’ works on Jerkins’ team makes the news of his involvement on the project all the more interesting, as the two men are partly responsible for a healthy portion of Brandy’s biggest and brightest moments.

Is a “Boy Is Mine” sequel in the works? Have Jerkins and his muse settled their differences once and for all? Is the possibility of his involvement on the LP a good or bad thing?

While these questions remain unanswered, just the simple confirmation that new music from our favorite contralto is still on its way is good enough for now.

Perhaps the “Drop Dead Diva” actress took our advice on resurrecting her career after all.

In any case, here’s hoping she gets to work on finishing this.
