Heading Into Bankers Life FieldHouse
TNT features an NBA game between the New York Knicks and the Orlando Magic. Both of these teams are looking to continue their respective records heading into the NBA Playoffs.
Both of these teams have struggled as of late due to injuries and lack of executing on both ends of the floor. They will need to review their strategies tonight if they want to get back to their winning ways.
Injuries Plague Both Teams
Coming into this game, the Magic have lost four straight. Their most recent loss came at the hands of Detroit with a final score of 102-95. They have not looked good as of late, which can be attributed to Howard being injured and forced to sit on the side lines. Heading into their game with the Pistons, they were without Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, and Ryan Anderson because of injuries.
Their performance certainly showed without these stars, and they will need a collaborative effort from everyone if they want to get out of their slump. They sport a record of 32-22, and they will need Dwight Howard back on the court if they want to get some momentum going.
Also, there has been talk that Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy heard today that Dwight Howard asked Orlando management to fire him. This certainly doesn’t help out the cohesiveness of the team that is needed to win games in the NBA. It will be interesting to see what actual plays out concerning Stan Van Gundy and the security of his job.
For the Knicks, they have also not looked impressive as of late. They are coming off a loss to the Pacers with a final score of 104-112. They were without their stars Amare Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin. Despite these players being out, the Knicks managed to keep the game competitive with Carmelo Anthony scoring 39 points with 10 rebounds. Landry Fields also showed some production scoring 15 points. They will need players like Fields to step it up since their star point guard Jeremy Lin is out for the entire season to undergo surgery.
Keys To Victory
For the New York, they will need Carmelo to have another big game to come out the victors tonight. He is averaging 21 points per game, and will look to have another stellar night against the Magic tonight. They will also need other players to step it up since they are without Jeremy Lin and Amare Stoudemire still.
For the Magic, they need Dwight Howard to bring them out of their four game losing streak. He was having back spasms that sidelined him for their last two games, and they hope he will be ready to play tonight against Knew York. Anderson and Nelson have also been sidelined, but there is hope that Nelson will start. They also need to focus on the New York, and not on Stan Van Gundy’s possible termination from the team.
