News 12 Long Island School closings due to blizzard snow

With Thursday’s Blizzard warning in the Tri-state area, several schools will be shutting down due to the additional snowfall.  The Blizzard warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday and remains in effect until 6 AM EST on Thursday morning.  With the news of more expected heavy snow in the area, there have been a large number of News 12 Long Island school closings listed.

According to the National Weather Service, the snow will be heavy at times and continue through midnight.  Total expected accumulations are predicted around 11 to 15 inches of snow.  Heavy winds will also play a part in the weather, with 20 to 25 mile per hour gusts, that may get up to 40 MPH also factoring in.  This storm could cause a mess for the area including possible power outages accompanying the heavy winds and snow.

The National Weather Service has advised against traveling due to the blizzard conditions which can limit visibility.  If one must travel, it’s best to bring a winter survival kit in the vehicle just in case of possibly being stranded.  As for schools, many in the Long Island area will shut down due to this problematic weather.  See the latest News 12 Long Island school closings here at News12.com.
