Newt Gingrich’s Baloney

When Lawrence O’Donnell re-quotes Newt Gingrich from 1993 and asks for an apology, Newt says “Baloney!” Newt claimed a tax increase in the nineties would kill jobs and cause a recession, when indeed it did quite the opposite.

The Gingrich quote from 2003 was: “The tax increase will kill jobs and lead to a recession, and the recession will force people out of work and onto unemployment, and actually increase the deficit.” Gingrich then babbled on saying that all the economic growth during the Clinton era happened after Republicans took control of the house and that those Republicans balanced the budget with a tax cut for four consecutive years. While those comments may be true, Gingrich still couldn’t face the fact that his stance on the tax rate increase was wrong.

During the Republican primaries, Gingrich referred to himself as a “Reagan” Republican. The fact is that America is sliding farther and farther into debt while Republicans refuse to actually follow the policies of their own oracle. Reagan increased the taxes for the top wage earners and lowered taxes for the lower wage earners. That’s EXACTLY what Obama is trying to do!! Reagan also spent an average of $237.5 billion per year, up 60 percent from previous administrations. But, on the issue of taxes, Gingrich was dead wrong and today’s Republicans are not even in the same ballpark as Reagan.

Baloney is a good word for most of what Newt Gingrich has to say.

In addition to imparting his tax wisdom upon the viewers of Meet the Press this morning, he also proclaimed that Hillary Clinton would be “virtually impossible” to beat in a 2016 Presidential election. Is that because you want to challenge her yourself, Newt? He will say absolutely anything for political gain. There’s nothing he would love more than to battle another Clinton. Hillary is not guaranteed to win the Democratic nomination and she’s not guaranteed a Presidential win. In fact, if Chris Christie joins the race on the Republican side, she just might lose in a big way.

Gingrich should stick to attending cocktail parties with his trophy-wife and leave things like arithmetic to others – specifically others with the last name of Clinton or Obama.
