NFL Free Agency Rumors – Cortland Finnegan to Pittsburgh Steelers?

Pittsburgh is one of the few NFL teams that doesn’t usually spend much of their salary cap space on big name free agents, but this off-season the team could finally open their wallets to bring in some much-needed help in the secondary.

Cortland Finnegan is one of the top corners in the league and a player that would fit nicely in the scheme Pittsburgh runs on defense and would be a big improvement over the again Ike Taylor. The Steelers secondary had the fewest interceptions in the league last year and need to add a player or two that can get the offense the ball more often.

Finnegan also has the skills to play safety and with the age of the current starters, adding some younger players is almost a must for this team to continue with the success they have created over the last few seasons. The 28-year-old also plays with a chip on his shoulder and that added mean streak could be useful against tough rival Baltimore and in big playoff games.

The Steelers front office is generally frugal at this time of year, but the NFL is changing and this team must also adjust or risk becoming irrelevant, so look for the team to make some changes this off-season and adding Finnegan would be an excellent start.
