NFL Trade Rumors – Lance Briggs to New England Patriots?

The NFL season is officially over and already trade rumors are hitting social media sites. The latest news from Bleacher Report has the Chicago Bears looking to trade disgruntled linebacker Lance Briggs, and the New England Patriots are one of the teams that could have some interest in the All-Pro.

Briggs requested a trade early in the 2011-12 season, but Chicago refused and the 31-year-old recorded over 100 tackles for the Bears. The team does have other needs, and a trade to the Patriots could land Chicago a second-round pick in the upcoming draft.

The NFL is not known for many deals, but more trades have happened over the last couple of seasons as teams begin to realize that holding on to players can cause distraction in the locker room. Teams can now acquire veteran players that have proven themselves for a draft pick who is not certain to do much in the league.

Chicago needs help on offense, and making a deal for a player or draft pick could help the team more than keeping Briggs for another year. Look for the Bears to have an active off-season as they look to rebound from this past season and make a run at the playoffs in 2012.
