The Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey beef is heating up. Correction: Make that straight up ghetto. American Idol likely knew it would cause drama by putting two divas at the same judges’ table, but the show may not have realized it would get this out of hand.
Before Thursday’s episode of The View, Mariah shared with Barbara Walters the juicy, and very disturbing, details that happened as Nicki left the stage after a messy fight with her fellow female judge at an Idol audition.
“Multiple people heard Nicki say, ‘If I had a gun I would shoot the b****,'” Walters read from her notes from her call with the singer. Allegedy several staffers and producers of the talent show witnessed the rapper’s rant as she walked off stage.
Mariah confided in Walters that she “doesn’t feel comfortable emotionally” and has hired extra security. Despite that, she’ll continue as an American Idol. Watch the video from The View below.
Nicki Minaj, not one to stay silent, lashed out on Twitter: “I don’t call tmz n Barbara Walters cuz I stand on my own two feet. Never needed an army. God is good. Insecurity is as cruel as the grave.”
While it’s terrible that Nicki Minaj would threaten Mariah Carey, the rapper has a point. If she was truly concerned she was in danger, shouldn’t Mariah have talked to police rather than gossip about it to Barbara Walters? It sounds like she purposely set out to give the “Pink Friday” rapper a bad name. Perhaps she’s more threatened by Nicki’s status in the entertainment world than she is by her weapons.
Is this the end of the Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj beef? Likely not. American Idol may see the fight as a win. Why? More drama could mean more TV viewers tuning in. With The Voice as its competitor, Idol needs anything it can get.
