Deadline.com is reporting The Weinstein Company is in the final stages of a deal in which the company will acquire the domestic rights to Grace of Monaco, said to star Nicole Kidman as the iconic actress Grace Kelly, who famously became the princess of Monaco when she married Prince Rainier in 1956.

TWC apparently has a lot of faith in the project as it has invested $5 million minimum guarantee and a P&A commitment of roughly $10 million for a minimum 800 screen run.

It isn’t surprising that there is already talk of the film garnering possible Oscar nominations next year. Kidman has proven herself to be an amazing talent over the years, and playing a real person, particularly a public figure, always gives an actor the edge during awards season.

This film, directed by Oliver Dahan, co-stars Tim Roth as Kidman’s onscreen husband, Prince Rainier III and will reportedly premiere in December.

Grace of Monaco focuses on Princess Grace’s transition from film star to her new role as princess by being instrumental in “helping her husband settle a dispute between her country and France’s Charles De Gaulle over tax laws in the 1960’s”.

According to The Guardian, not everyone is happy about the project. In a joint statement all three of the late princess’s children; current ruler of Monaco Prince Albert and his two sisters, Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie, called the film “historically inaccurate”.

Moviegoers are sure to be fascinated by her transformation from Grace Kelly to Princess Grace of Monaco.
