The NIT Tournament 2012 bracket schedule for first round games is set to begin Tuesday night. Nine games will be available for college basketball fans via live stream online and television coverage from the ESPN networks.
With the NIT tournament schedule revealed, now times and channels for the first games are known. Games will be seen on TV by ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU channels. There will also be a selection of these secondary NCAA tournament games shown live streaming online via ESPN3. The ESPN3 website is a special free of charge sports broadband site that shows a variety of sporting events online.
Tonight’s games begin at approximately 7PM EST with #5 UMass taking on #4 Mississippi State. Shortly after that game starts, #1 seed Seton Hall tips off against #8 Stony Brook at 7:15PM EST. In tonight’s action, three of the NIT’s #1 seeds will hit the hardwood courts. The final game of the evening will feature #6 seed Cleveland State taking on #3 seed Stanford at 11PM EST. Most of the games will be played at the higher seed’s campus or home court arena, with the exception of Dayton, as they will have to play at Iowa due to the NCAA tournament taking over their court the next few days.
Does the National Invitation Tournament mean anything? Of course, because it could be a way for a snubbed team to show they really are above the field here and deserved a spot in the Big Dance. There’s still plenty of excitement over teams that made the NIT 2012 tournament brackets. Some fans may feel their particular school was robbed of an NCAA bid, but they’ll now look to see if their team can run the tables for the NIT. The ultimate destination will be Madison Square Garden for the Final Four and Championship game.
