While Lindsay Lohan is biding her time at the Betty Ford Center, active in her rehab for drug and alcohol issues, the director and producers of a film in which she was to star have replaced her. Lindsay Lohan will no longer play the role of Linda Lovelace in the biopic “Inferno,” having been replaced instead by Malin Akerman.

According to MSN, director Matthew Wilder issued the following statement to the media regarding his need to replace Lindsay Lohan in the role of porn star Linda Lovelace.

“We have stuck by Lindsay very patiently for a long time with a lot of love and support,” Wilding said. “Ultimately, the impossibility of insuring her — and some other issues — have made it impossible for us to go forward.”

Is this the beginning of the end for Lindsay Lohan’s career as an actor? Will word spread like wildfire that she is no longer the star of “Inferno?”

Wilder hopes not. Instead he explains that Lohan was first cast as Linda Lovelace and production was scheduled for much earlier this year. It was pushed back the first time when Lindsay Lohan had to report to jail. The second production schedule was to begin in November, but with Lohan’s sentence in the rehab facility, she was unable to fulfill her obligation. Production couldn’t be pushed back any further, so the decision was made to fill her role with another actor.

Malin Akerman, who will now star in “Inferno” as Linda Lovelace, is know for roles in “Watchmen” and “27 Dresses.” While a relative newcomer on Hollywood scene, she has definitely made her mark as a serious and very talented actor.

Matthew Wilder said an official announcement about Akerman replacing Lindsay Lohan will be made to the press on Monday.

Who do you think would do a better job of portraying Linda Lovelace….Lindsay Lohan or Malin Akerman?
