No Surgery for Honey Boo Boo’s Niece

Yes, it’s true. In addition to being a reality TV star and pageant contestant, Honey Boo Boo, a.k.a. 6-year-old Alana Thompson is an aunt. Her niece, Kaitlyn, was born this summer to her 17-year-old sister Anna ‘Chickadee’ Shannon–and she has two thumbs on one hand.

According to a report from RadarOnline, baby Kaitlyn won’t have to have surgery to repair the anomaly–at least not yet. Mama June Shannon says it may never happen.

Honey Boo-Boo Child “She may or may not ever get surgery to remove one of the thumbs,” she says. “The doctor doesn’t want to do anything right now because they don’t know the full function of the other thumb or if they’re both connected.”

Poor little Kaitlyn will soon become a bona fide cast member on the reality TV show spinoff of Toddlers and Tiaras–where little Alana first achieved her claim to fame. What a start for a child born with two thumbs on one hand–can you imagine what her future holds?

Not only will this baby possibly endure ridicule over having two thumbs on one hand–she’ll also be known as a part of this self-proclaimed redneck family that touts its absurdities and crude behavior on national TV. One the upside, however, little Kaitlyn’s grandmother says she’s ‘special.’

“She’s just special; I would never make fun of her. That is not right. It makes her more unique and special to us. We don’t even pay attention to it. We don’t make a big deal about it,” June Shannon says.

Poor Kaitlyn and her little aunt Honey Boo Boo don’t stand a chance–do they? When you look at their futures via June Shannon’s level of intellect (or lack thereof)–there isn’t a prayer in hell they’ll turn out normal.

And the whole family will no doubt give a big (two) thumbs up about that!
