President Barack Obama knows he will be re-elected, according to a “hot mic” conversation overheard by reporters with his Russian counterpart.

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and he were caught on live microphones discussing the proposed European missile strategy, and the American President let slip another term is in the bag.

Maybe, the American and Russian political systems aren’t so different after all. Elections are only formalities, right?

“This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility,” the Democratic President told Medvedev. Why is he certain he will defeat the Republican candidate?

Gas prices are out of control, the real unemployment rate is about 15 percent, and the U.S. has a lowered standing of the world, so what accounts for Obama’s cockiness?

The two leaders were meeting in Korea to discuss the proposed U.S. missile shield in Eastern Europe. Vladimir Putin is the President-elect of Russia, but he wasn’t present for the conference.

Medvedev, by the way, sounded like Putin’s gofer during the short exchange, and said he planned to report back to his boss.

During the exchange, Obama complained that Putin needs to give him “space” until after the election. Journalists picked up the remarks because the presidents’ microphones were switched on.
