Why did a DJ suddenly stop a phone interview with One Direction’s Zayn Malik? The Canadian DJ, Scott Rush, claims that One Direction’s publicist issued a very strict list of topics that couldn’t be discussed just prior to the interview’s start.
According to a report from The Huffington Post, Rush shuffled some papers around, mumbled a few things about the banned topics–questions about each others’ worst habits, celebrity crushes, money and religion–and cut the interview off, leaving Zayn hanging on the other end of the phone line.
So did One Direction’s publicist really come forward with a list of banned topics right before Zayn’s interview? No. It seems like the DJ simply got testy over his inability to have free reign during the interview. One Direction released a statement via Twitter a day after the stopped interview.
“Regarding the recent story about One Direction ‘banning questions’ — this is a complete misunderstanding. One Direction asked if certain recurring questions could be avoided in future interviews as the band were giving the same answers continually. They knew, via feedback, that the fans were requesting a wider range of subject matter in interviews. Questions relating to describing each band member, or referencing ‘The X Factor,’ are certainly not out of bounds. A suggestion was merely made to try and make interviews more interesting for the fans, which has been misconstrued and misunderstood,” the statement read.
Do you think the One Direction management is getting way too picky? Was issuing the purported list the DJ received prohibiting fans from learning about Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik?
Or was Canadian DJ Scott Rush simply being uncooperative and trying to make it seem like everything was One Direction’s fault?
Zayn likely felt bad having his interview stopped before it even really started–and fans looking forward to hearing Zayn interviewed were no doubt disappointed, too.
