The Oscars 2010 predictions will continue to flood in right up until the Hollywood awards show kicks off at 8PM EST on ABC this Sunday.  One category from the various Oscars 2010 nominees which may be a sealed deal is that of the Best Actor field.  It includes strong performances from some Hollywood heavyweights as well as a few new names in the mix as well.  Here’s some thoughts on the Oscars 2010 prediction for Best Actor award.

The popular choice for Best Actor throughout the other movie awards shows has been longtime actor Jeff Bridges.  In “Crazy Heart”, Bridges portrays a washed up cowboy country-western singer who is dealing with the fact his friend is playing sellout shows, while Bridges’ character is doing small local gigs in bars or bowling alleys.  He’s also dealing with alcohol problems as well, but his meeting with a female journalist which begins a budding romance may start to turn his life around.

Bridges is the favorite due to the fact he’s won the Best Actor award for the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild award, and LA Film Critics award all for his role.  He may be a sentimental favorite as well, almost like Susan Lucci who was nominated for Emmy’s so many times, yet lost.  Bridges has previous Academy award nominations for Best Actor in 2000 for The Contender and in 1984 for Starman.  He’s been nominated for the Supporting Actor award several times as well, including his debut film role in The Last Picture Show way back in 1971, but he’s never won the Oscar for Supporting or Best Actor. This could very well be Bridges’ big year, and an emotional moment on stage when he accepts his first.

Jeff Bridges is the Oscars 2010 prediction for Best Actor among many critics and fans.  He will face strong competition from the likes of Hollywood’s finest in Morgan Freeman (Invictus), George Clooney (Up in the Air), Colin Firth (A Single Man), and Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker).  While The Hurt Locker may take Best Picture on Sunday, it’s also possible that Renner gets the upset victory over Bridges.  Renner plays a complex bomb squad soldier who’s a bit of a loose cannon, yet still doing his best to diffuse volatile situations over in Iraq.  It’s also hard to count out all-time acting legends like Freeman or Clooney, but Colin Firth’s performance in A Single Man is also outstanding.  For now in the Oscars 2010 predictions, Best Actor seems to be a lock for Jeff Bridges.  Tune in Sunday to find out!
