Paige Aiello: Her Family Maintains Hope

Paige Aiello, a senior at the College of New Jersey, has been missing since last Tuesday, when her parents discovered that she had taken the family car without permission. The car was found at a parking garage in New Brunswick, near the New Jersey Transit, and her purse, cell phone, and keys to the car were found on the George Washington bridge. Christopher Aiello, Paige’s father, said she was seen getting off a train at Penn Station and walking in the direction of the bridge, though they are looking for additional footage to see where she went after she left that camera’s view.

What was it about the George Washington Bridge was a draw for this girl, who had her 22nd birthday last Thursday, after her disappearance? She was all-conference, captain of her school’s tennis team, and had been accepted by nine law schools for the fall, and had chosen to attend Rutgers. Her father has been quoted saying that Paige had “hit some kind of wall,” as well as saying she had been depressed and stressed in the days leading up to her going missing.

Did Paige Aiello just go on a walkabout, just drop it all and start over? She surely wouldn’t be the first person to choose to live a more simple, peaceful life, but this behavior seems to be unlike her. Is there something more sinister afoot in the case of the missing co-ed? Scans of the Hudson River have not yet turned up any evidence, but it is possible that Paige, burdened by the stress, took her own life. Or she may have encountered someone dangerous. Until she is found, there will be no answers as to her whereabouts or her state of mind. Hopefully some good news is brought to the family, and Paige comes home safe.
