Pan-Asian girl band, Blush, was tailor-made for the United States market. The group hit the international music scene last year and hasn’t quit! Each girl was hand-picked from different countries. Alisha from India, Angeli from the Philippines, Ji Hae from South Korea, Victoria from China and Natsuko from Japan. Blush works with award-winning producers and songwriters through great connections in the industry. They had their first hit in 2011 in the US market with “Undivided” featuring Snoop Dogg. “Undivided” placed #3 on Billboard’s Dance Chart. Now, Blush has a #2 Dance hit with their newest single, “Dance On”. They are the first Asian girl group to have their first two singles hit top three on a major U.S. chart. These adorable girls have nowhere to go but up!
Jon Niermann, Ex-Disney Asia chief and current CEO of FarWest Entertainment, created the glamorous group specifically to succeed in the West. He says “They’ve been created by Western producers, Western song writers, in English, for the world’s stage. We had a lot of questions a year ago, ‘oh, Asian artists haven’t really made it in the U.S.’ Well yeah, that’s why we’re doing this, because we think there’s a huge opportunity. So, instead of shutting the door, we wanted to kick it open.” The group is off to a great start! They have already opened for Justin Bieber, Black Eyed Peas, and more.
Blush’s success coincides with the emerging K-Pop (Korean Pop) music genre becoming popular in the U.S. Superstar South Korean girl group, Girls’ Generation, made their U.S. television debut last week on The Late Show with David Letterman. TeenNick just premiered a movie about another South Korean girl band, Wonder Girls. Finally, last October, an all K-Pop concert at Madison Square Garden sold out. They will be performing in another K-Pop concert at the end of February in California. Recently, they did a tour of U.S. schools and now they’re doing the same thing in Asia. It appears their handlers are doing a great job of getting them in front of the right audience. They are already proving that they can do school tours and still crank out Billboard hits.
The Blush song “Up, Up and Away” is playing on Radio Disney’s Music Mailbag. The song is on the Disney album “Shake It Up: Live 2 Dance” and kids can vote if they want to keep the song playing on Radio Disney. A huge part of the girls’ success is that they are masters of Social Media. Blush has a “web show” on YouTube called BlushTV along with their music videos at BlushVideo. They are all very active on sites like Twitter and Facebook. They are smart, polite, and engaging young women who seem to really enjoy connecting with their fans. No doubt they will continue to take the West by storm and we will be hearing a lot more from them in the near future!
