Larry Platt, known as the Pants on the Ground Guy, is NOT dead, despite a heated internet rumor to the contrary. The 63-year-old Platt was rumored to have been murdered in front of an Atlanta convenience store by gang members who became enraged when he sang his hit song, “Pants on the Ground.” Now, does that sound true to you? It’s not. According to Platt’s own website, he’s not dead.

Platt became famous when he sang a song he wrote about young men wearing their pants too low, for an American Idol audition in Atlanta. And although Platt didn’t make it to Hollywood (he’s too old) his song, “Pants on the Ground” became a viral hit on YouTube, with more than six million views.

According to Wikipedia, several celebrities sang their own versions of the song, including “late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon, who performed a version of the song while also impersonating Neil Young on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. NFL quarterback Brett Favre was also caught leading the Minnesota Vikings in a performance of the song in their locker room following their game against the Dallas Cowboys in the 2010 NFL playoffs. Today Show hosts Meredith Viera, Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Ann Curry also organized a performance of the song.”
