The panty bandit of Oregon has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison. Originally the teenager had been granted only probation, however, the judge revoked this decision.
The teenager broke into homes in southern Oregon and would only steal young women’s underwear, which he kept in plastic baggies. That’s how he earned himself the moniker “panty bandit”.
According to David Schutt, Lake County District Attorney, the teenager, Rodger Clint Lee Vanwormer Jr. “burglarized homes in Lakeview in 2009, taking only female underwear, which was later found in labeled plastic baggies in his room.”
According to MSNBC, Vanwormer pleaded guilty to 10 counts of first-degree burglary and was placed on a restrictive 36-month probation. Schutt said that terms included sex offender treatment and no contact with minors.
However, Vanwormer’s probation officer moved to revoke the probation. According to Schutt, “among other violations, the now-17-year-old offender had been terminated from sex offender treatment for lying.”
The panty bandit was sentenced on Tuesday to prison.
While it may seem bizarre to go to the lengths of breaking into homes only to steal women’s underwear, this definitely smells of future (if not current) sex offender. The decision to place him in jail will likely spare many women of a horrible and terrifying ordeal, though, four and a half years is not a very long amount of time.
