PARIS AND PRINCE MICHAEL I SPEAK AT MICHAEL JACKSON GRAMMYS TRIBUTE–BUT WHERE WAS BLANKET?? VIDEO & BACKSTAGE PICTURES INCLUDED
Whatever we think of Michael Jackson, whatever strange occurrences mar his legend, one thing is for certain: his children really loved him. Paris and Prince Michael I, the oldest of the trio of Jackson’s offspring, made an appearance at last night’s Grammys that won’t soon be forgotten. In the midst of what must be continuing grief and sadness, they participated in the tribute to their father with great poise laced with a seriousness that is not befitting children of such a young age. A flock of their cousins stood to the side, watching them, grinning and smiling, but the question of the night was Where Is Blanket?
The youngest of Jackson’s kids, Blanket is actually named Prince Michael II and is perhaps the most scandalized of the three–his introduction to the world was performed on a balcony in Germany floors above screaming fans who watched, bewildered, as Jackson tipped his baby son over the railing and acted as if he were going to let the baby drop to the crowd below. It was a wild and ill-advised publicity stunt and the baby’s unfortunate nickname, Blanket, made it even more so.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the youngest Jackson, only 7 years old, had some serious butterflies right before the children were slated to appear onstage and he was kept behind the curtain. Does it seem weird that these shielded kids are being forced by their grandmother to make appearances in front of millions of fans, live at the Staples Center and on television shown around the world.
Hopefully, since the thing that seemed to have ruined their dad’s life was not having a proper childhood, these kids will be allowed to grow up not under a microscope but under the loving care of the people who couldn’t figure out how to love their father enough to make a difference.
