Feeling lucky tonight? So do all the other hopeful multimillionaires! The lottery winner must match all six Powerball winning numbers for the estimated $60,000,000 jackpot on February 22, 2012, in order to claim the prize.
Wednesday’s Powerball winner will have to choose from the annuitized amount paid out in 30 annual payments, or as a one-time lump-sum cash payment of $37,100,000. Both amounts are before taxes, so figure on handing over a chunkful to Uncle Sam if you won. It’s a tough job, but something the winner wouldn’t mind doing if they won that much money!
$1,000,000 Iowa Powerball Winner
Steve Petty is a very happy man. The Adair, Iowa, Powerball winner is $1,000,000 richer after matching five out of six Powerball winning numbers, but not the Powerball number. Petty purchased his winning ticket from Casey’s, located at 100 N. Fifth Street in Guthrie Center, Iowa, for the Saturday, February 18th drawing.
Had Steve Petty spent an extra dollar on a Power Play ticket, he would have won $2,000,000 instead. Petty is still mighty astounded with his good fortune, because before Powerball changed its pricing from $1 to $2 per ticket on January 15, 2012, his winning lottery numbers would have only rewarded him with $200,000, not the $1,000,000 that he received.
What’s Petty going to spend his new-found money on? As luck would have it, Steve Petty is a tax preparer, so he intends to plan for his retirement. He’ll have plenty of money to do that with, but he says he wants a new car too!
