Prince Harry is trying to do his job like any other British soldier, but his birth has placed him in a very tenuous position. The young royal is embarking on a four-month tour of duty in Afghanistan, but first must complete a brief round of training. Harry is currently at Camp Bastion, which is located near the main hub of the Taliban.
Harry’s presence puts those around him in a difficult position. Although the prince is a comrade, he is also a liability. His royal status makes him a prime target, which is cemented by a statement recently released by the Taliban. Essentially, Harry has a giant bullseye on his back. The statement reveals how dangerous the situation in Afghanistan is for Harry and his fellow soldiers.
“We are using all our strength to get rid of him, either by killing or kidnapping. We have informed our commanders in Helmand to do whatever they can to eliminate him.”
In fact, the Taliban has apparently named the nasty bit of a business, the “Harry Operations.” Prince Harry’s exact location will obviously be kept top-secret, but last time he was in Afghanistan, his position was given away by the media and he was pulled out due to security concerns.
Is it fair for Harry to put his fellow soldiers at an even greater risk? It is understandable the prince wants to do his part, but in this case, his presence could do more harm than good.
