Professor Amy Bishop, the University of Alabama-Huntsville professor who gunned down five colleagues back in February, was indicted in Massachusetts today for the shooting death of her 18-year old brother Seth in 1986. According to Norfolk District Attorney William Keating, Amy Bishop was charged with first degree murder in the death of Seth Bishop.
Amy Bishop claims that her brother’s death was an accident. Twenty-one years old at the time, she says she asked for her 18-year old brother’s help with unloading a gun, when the firearm discharged, killing him.
William Keating admits that jobs weren’t done properly when Seth Bishop was killed in 1986, and had things been handled differently, three people in Alabama might in fact be alive today.
Bishop is awaiting trial in Alabama on capital murder and attempted murder charges in the university shooting.
I say “bravo” to the Norfolk, Massachusetts District Attorneys Office for reopening this case and indicting Amy Bishop on charges she murdered her brother. She sounds like a devious person whose anger stays dormant for years, but who erupts when feeling threatened. She clearly needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
