Queen Elizabeth is a Great-Grandmother

Queen Elizabeth is now a great-grandmother. The queen’s great-granddaughter was born on Wednesday to parents Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn. No name has yet been formally announced for the new baby girl.

According to a report from Yahoo! News, Queen Elizabeth’s new great-grandchild is 12th in line  to the throne. The queen’s grandson Peter Phillips is the son of Princess Anne and her first husband.

Can you imagine the life this little girl has just been born into? She will undoubtedly live a life of royalty, but hopefully her parents can manage to instill in her some normalcy that will allow her the freedom of living among those who are not of her own royal upbringing.

Certainly some of Queen Elizabeth’s family members, whether born of blood or married into royalty, have not been suited for the royal life, and it has wound up being far more of a burden than a blessing. Clearly Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson are both examples of what can go wrong amidst a royal lifestyle when the “games” aren’t played as expected.

For now, however, one would hope that this new baby girl will be loved and care for, not only by Queen Elizabeth, but by all the members of her family, and that she will be thought of as so much more than a “member of the royal family,” but also as a human being who has the right to enjoy her life…most especially her childhood.
