It just has to be a good sign when youâ€™re driving out of the driveway and a rainbow appears right in front of you.
It was Monday, October 18th, the day that most runners mark on their calendar with a specific time, 9 AM.Â That is the date and the time that registration opens for the Boston Marathon.Â I know that most runners mark the date and the time because from 9:02 am until 11:12 am, I was trying to register.Â FINALLY, I was able to put my application in, get a confirmation number and now await the verification of official inclusion in the 2011 running of the Boston Marathon (apparently that could take a few weeks).Â There will be some pretty intense training during the winter months here in New York.Â Â And the Farmers Almanac saysâ€¦.

Ted and I are on a plane and off to Florida on Thursday.Â Itâ€™s Pam and Hemanâ€™s wedding this Saturday and the majority of the family are gathering to celebrate.Â Weâ€™re all pretty excited and very, very happy for the lovely couple.Â My parents are driving from South Carolina to see Pam married.Â Iâ€™m so excited I get to visit with Mom and Dad for a day.Â I wonâ€™t see them again until Christmas.
But before we go, there was body work to be done:
Wednesday workout:Â Beginning with back and shoulders (free weights and cables)Â which completes the weight workout for the week.Â No telling what kind of weights the hotel will offer and usually itâ€™s not a huge selection so best to complete that phase while still at home.
Shane and I went onÂ a 7.00 mile run.Â This was my longest run since the marathon.Â Everything felt pretty darned good.Â I will admit my legs got tired and everything on my lower body began to ache.Â Those are what I call â€œfunnyâ€ pains.Â They donâ€™t hurt a lot but they make you aware of that part of your body e.g. top of foot, bottom of foot, etc.Â Â Â Â Â Â
A side dish to hold you overâ€¦
Smothered Cabbage â€“ because there is all sorts of other ingredients mixed in with that delicious leafy green member of the mustard family (YES..the mustard family).Â Serves 4.
- 2 TBS olive oil
- 1 small head of cabbage, shredded
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into thin strips
- 1/2 a large onion, rough chop
- 12 cherry tomatoes cut into quarters
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1/3 cup veggie broth (or white wine)
- 1/2 cup Parmesan Romano cheese
Heat the oil in a large saute pan over medium heat.Â Add the cabbage, pepper strips, and onion.Â Saute for 8 minutes over medium heat.Â
Add the cherry tomatoes, salt, pepper, and minced garlic and continue cooking for about another 5 minutes.
Deglaze with 1/4 cup vegetable broth or white wine. Reduce heat to a simmer for 2 minutes.
Top with Parmesan Romano cheese and serve.
