Randy Travis Divorces His Wife And Manager

Randy Travis and his wife Elizabeth filed for divorce Thursday, finalizing it today. The petition was filed in Albuquerque, New Mexico by Randy, and had asked for an equal split of the couple’s assets, but the reason for the divorce is something that may never be known. The reason listed was a “state of incompatibility exists between the parties,” but this tells nothing about what the incompatibility entailed. Perhaps they just argued too much, or there were intimacy issues. Without Travis or his ex-wife to say why, all that can be done is speculate and that really wouldn’t be fair to do to them.

A representative for the family didn’t clear the air very much either. Her only statement was that the divorce was final. A previous statement said Travis and Elizabeth had “parted ways” adding that there would be “no further comment” concerning the divorce, but that Elizabeth would continue to act as his manager. How can they still work together if they couldn’t resolve the issues of their marriage? It seems that maintaining a working relationship would only lead to stressful confrontations between the two. How could Randy continue to be productive with the stress of being managed by his ex-wife? Apparently they feel it will work, and that’s good enough for them.

(Photo by Rick Diamond/Getty Images for ACM) Randy Travis met his wife at the age of 16, after winning a talent contest at the club she managed. He began playing regularly for her at “Country City USA” in Charlotte NC ,and by the late 1970’s, Elizabeth had become his manager. She was so sure of Randy’s talent that she financed his first few singles herself according to IMDB, which might explain why she is still his manager. It would seem that since she pretty much pushed his career from its starting point, they both might feel she is entitled to keep a stake in her discovery. That’s understandable, but can a solely working relationship between the two be maintainable? Anything is possible. Randy and Elizabeth had been married since May 31, 1991.

Randy is still singing and acting. He has a movie in post production called Jerusalem Countdown, which is listed as being released in 2010, but as late in the year as it is, it seems likely that 2011 will be the earliest anyone will see it. As far as music, nothing new, as far as an album, is listed on his website as being released, and only one tour date is listed.

Perhaps Randy wanted to end this year with major changes (such as the divorce), and next year will bring us a renewed Randy Travis.
