Rape Victim: ‘I was in a safe zone and my attacker didn’t care’ [Video]

A “safe zone” was recently used as an alternative to weapons in order to justify a new Colorado law that bans concealed weapons permits on public college campuses. One rape victim, Amanda Collins, responds.

The incomparable Katie Pavlich from TownHall reports that Collins was in a gun-free zone when she was raped. Although Collins had a concealed weapons permit, she was not carrying at the time due to university policies that prohibited firearms on campus.

Collins discussed the recent comments from Colorado State Rep. Joe Salazar, who said regarding recently-passed House Bill 1226, “It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles,” and further insinuated that women who felt under attack may shoot indiscriminately, harming the potential attacker.

To add insult to injury, the Department of Public Safety at the University of Colorado also advised the potential victim on how to handle an attacker if one does not have a weapon. Their astounding “advice” included “tell the attacker ‘that you have a disease or are menstruating,'” and “Vomiting or urinating may also convince the attacker to leave you alone.” Imagine, if you will, a petite woman faced with a would-be violent rapist following this ridiculous advice.

The comments drew widespread outrage…on Twitter and conservative media. Not surprisingly, the mainstream media was not too keen on the story and did not bother reporting it.

Collins said, “I can tell you that a call box above my head while I was straddled on the parking garage floor being brutally raped wouldn’t have helped me one bit. The safe zone? I was in a safe zone and my attacker didn’t care.” Many gun control laws disregard law-abiding citizens such as Amanda Collins, who is a hero for coming forward with her story.
