Rappers have been arrested in Iran. Apparently in the country, rap groups are forced underground because rapping is not acceptable in the country. In fact, it is illegal – it is considered un-Islamic. Right now there is no word on how many rappers were arrested or what their ages are. Things are so different in other countries – it is actually hard to believe that rappers would be arrested.
Rappers in Iran Arrested Over Illegal Production of Western-Style Music
The police arrested several young boys and girls who were actually recording the illegal music in vacant homes, so they were arrested. The police also took several western style musical instruments and bottles of alcohol.
The police chief said, “These groups use the most trashy, juvenile and street-like words and phrases that have no place in proper grammar. More importantly, they have no regard for the law, principles, proper behavior and language.”
Other illegal rappers were identified in the video the officers found, so they are searching for these people as well. Right now there is also no information about if the rappers are in jail or their charges. Hopefully they will not be hurt in the hunt.
There may be some problems with rap and the type of behavior it promotes. However, it would be incredibly difficult to live in a society that did not allow free speech. It is something that people in the U.S. often take for granted. You can’t help but feel sorry for the young rappers who were arrested in Iran. It is too bad that they actually had to go underground to do something that obviously matters to them.
