Read Across America 2011 will be held at the Library of Congress on March 2. It will be hosted by the National Education Association (NEA) and Michelle Obama will be present to read Greenegg.gifDr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham to several hundred school children from local schools.

Also present for the event will be U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Read Across America 2011 is in its 14th year and was created by NEA as a way “to get children excited about reading” all year long. NEA chose March 2 to be the holiday’s official date because it is also the day beloved children’s book author, Dr. Seuss, was born.

This is the perfect time to get your own little ones excited by reading one of Dr. Suess’s many great and engaging books to them. Life can have a way of getting too hectic and parents often forget that it’s the little things that matter most. Read Across America 2011 is an important reminder that when you read to your children, you are also bonding with them and that is what really matters.
