When summertime comes around, everyone wants to take advantage of the beautiful weather by spending lots of hours outdoors. It is a time for camping, pool parties, and BBQ’s. However, there is one aggravating problem: mosquitoes. Finding a mosquito bite remedy should not be too difficult.

Mosquito bite remedies are plentiful – some are tried and true while others are quite weird. Many of the home treatments involve items that you probably have on-hand, which makes them convenient. May the remedy you choose relieve the itch!

Perhaps you prefer a mosquito bite remedy that you buy at the store; here are a few that are proven to take away the itch:

  • Calamine lotion
  • Benedryl cream
  • Orajel
  • Anbesol
  • Preparation H
  • Vicks Vapo Rub
  • Mylanta
  • GoldBond Medicated cream or powder

Home Mosquito Bite Remedies
Most of the items in the list below can be found in your house, so relief from the itch will be quick. Administer the following directly on the bite:

  • Rub a dry (or wet) bar of soap
  • Put a piece of scotch tape
  • Apply a hot compress or take a hot shower or bath
  • Apply a cold compress or ice pack
  • Dab a little toothpaste
  • Roll on some deodorant
  • Rub apple cider vinegar
  • Apply ammonia
  • Dab a cotton ball soaked in hot tea (or use the tea bag itself)
  • Wet the area and rub some table salt on it
  • Use the gel from the leaf of an aloe plant

Other Simple Mosquito Bite Remedies
The ingredients below are said to eliminate the itch of mosquito bites:

  • Tea tree oil
  • Lavender oil
  • Cedar oil
  • Basil (fresh leaves crushed)
  • Plantains (mashed with a fork)
  • Lemon or lime slices
  • The flesh inside a banana peel

Make-it-Yourself Mosquito Bite Remedies
Mix together any of the two ingredients indicated below to make a thick paste, and apply directly over the bite:

  • Baking soda and water
  • Witch hazel oil and baking soda
  • Crushed Tums tablets and a few drops of water
  • Crushed aspirin tablets and a few drops of water
  • Epsom salt and water (for soaking)
