Republican Allen West States That LGBT Discrimination ‘Don’t Happen’

Representative Allen West, a Florida republican, is going around saying that LGBT discrimination just “don’t happen.” This has got to be one of the most misinformed (to put it kindly) opinions on how those in the LGBT community are treated.

The tea party favorite is an African American who has likely experienced at least one episode of discrimination in his life. One would think he would look back on this and practice some tolerance for others who face massive discrimination in this country.

When West was asked about people being fired for being gay, he responded, “Well, I don’t see that as being a big issue with small businesses. I sit on the Small Business Committee. You know what they’re concerned about? They’re concerned about onerous tax policy, regulatory policy and lack of access to capital because Dodd-Frank is absolutely decimating small community banks.”

Allen West does not have a clue what the LGBT community goes through in this country. While a few states do now recognize gay marriage, so many others are just not accepting that some people love differently. This in itself is a form of discrimination, so how can West be so ignorant to the fact that LGBT people are clearly discriminated against?

It seems West is just taking his conservative views and using them to live in a box. To say that LGBT discrimination doesn’t happen is just like saying that racism is a myth.
