John Rose Sr., the Republican candidate for the West Virginia legislature was killed Tuesday, October 30 by a falling tree branch, according to Daily News. Rose was yet another victim of super storm Sandy’s wrath. The snow-covered branch struck Rose as he was checking the fences of his deer farm in Barbour County, W.V. soon after West Virginia was blanketed by heavy snow in the wake of Sandy.

This tragic accident occurs just days before what has become one of the most dramatic, bitter and memorable elections in history. It is too late to replace Rose’s name on the ballot. State election officials say that a sign will be posted at precincts notifying voters of Rose’s death. As reported by LaLate News, in the event that Rose is elected it will be up to the state Republican party executive committee of Barbour County to submit three names to Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, who will then select a nominee to serve the 47th district.

John Rose’s death is a reminder of how dangerous falling tree limbs can be. Several people have been killed by falling tree limbs resulting from this storm alone.
