Rick Perry Under Attack from Fellow Republicans (Video)

Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), the new darling of the Republican Party, stirred the pot when he entered the race to become the GOP nominee for the presidency. He immediately shot to the top of list of potential candidates and took the lead in polling. Perry even received more votes than Newt Gingrich in the Iowa Straw Poll, and he didn’t enter the race until the day of the poll. Since the governor’s entry into the race, he is enjoying star-like status but the heat is starting to come.

According to the Wall Street Journal, a new Tea Party Super PAC called Keep Conservatives United produced attack ads against Perry’s claim that he follows the tenets of the Tea Party. The reason for the ads is to draw a contrast between Gov. Perry and Rep. Michelle Bachmann (D-MN). Bob Harris, a Republican from North Carolina and co-founder of the Super PAC said, “We’re going after Perry because he’s the one who’s going to split the conservative vote, and his record doesn’t match what he talks about.”

Another reason for the attacks ads is Mr. Harris’s and his partner Luther Snyder’s frustration with the Bachmann campaign’s refusal to go after the governor. Since Bachmann won’t attack the governor, ” . . . I figured we would try to get people to take a look at him,” said Harris.

It is interesting that the Republican candidates, so far, choose not to attack Perry. He is wide open to attack because his record does not jive with what he says. Perhaps the governor is too charismatic for the rest of the group. Check out the video and judge for yourself.
