‘Rizzoli & Isles’ Season 3 Spoilers: Jane and Maura’s Friendship After the Shooting

Rizzoli & Isles season 2 ended on a cliffhanger. Jane shot Paddy Doyle, Maura’s father, which led to Maura pushing her away as she tried to help him. What will that mean for their friendship in season 3?

R&I Season 3 Spoilers

That’s not something they can just forget about, meaning that the two lead characters will have to work at getting back to where they were as friends. According to TVLine, Angie Harmon has said that it’s going to be “a lot complicated” when the new season begins. She went on to say, “If you’ve ever had a fight with someone you love or care about, this is the show for you. It’s very high stakes these two are fighting over.” Photos from the season 3 premiere (like the one to the right) do show that the two appear to be fighting (and it’s going to be on video apparently), and the episode description for “What Doesn’t Kill You” does say their “friendship suffers” in the aftermath of the shooting.

That does mean that Rizzoli & Isles season 3 will show them getting back to how things used to be, but it’s not going to happen quite so fast. According to Harmon, “I personally like that they didn’t bring it together full-circle in one episode. It takes a little bit.” That’s really the only way they could do it. It’s not like that’s something that Maura can just get over right away. Even when she does begin to forgive Jane for what she did, they’re still going to have to deal with what happened longer than that. In fact, the second episode of the season, “Dirty Little Secret,” will see the others “caught in the middle” while “tensions continue to mount between” the once best friends. This should make for some good episodes along the way as they continue to solve cases together while trying to repair their friendship.
