Robert Pattinson Finally Opens Up about His ‘Showmance’ with Kristen Stewart

Robert Pattinson finally addressed the allegations that his four-year relationship with Kristen Stewart including their recent reconciliation has been nothing more than an elaborate scam. Almost from the very beginning of their lengthy liaison, there have been rumors that the Twilight lovebirds were never in love. They affair was just a “showmance” concocted by the Summit Entertainment publicity machine to help insure the continuation of the Twilight Saga franchise, and more recently, to promote Breaking Dawn Part Two. Ouch. So what did RPattz have to say? Not much, really. But hopefully, his rather rambling explanation will help finally out the matter to rest. Or not.

“For one thing, it would be a terrible marketing tool,” Rob laughed when asked about the Robsten phenomenon, “…and it’s not utilized very well at all. People will say anything. I’m still amazed that people even believe anything [that’s said about us]. I mean, it’s one of the craziest things about the whole situation, where you can see the whole—is paradigm the right word?—of celebrity gossip, celebrity culture type stuff that’s literally entirely made up. There’s a story line. You have a set character and your story line is written for you. And it doesn’t matter what you do. I talked to Reese Witherspoon about it a while ago, and she was the person who really told me, you get given a character. I mean, I’ve literally tried to do things to throw people off, and it just doesn’t get printed.”

Well, that clears that up. Rob’s right, of course—sort of. People will believe what they want to believe no matter what he says. Which may be why he didn’t really answer the question. Seriously, quoting Reese Witherspoon and bad mouthing the media isn’t the same as denying the allegations or setting the record straight. And it’s surely not the same as saying unequivocally that he loves KStew. Whatever. In the end, whether Robsten is or is not a real romance probably matters only to diehard twihards. Everyone else will simply enjoy the Twilight films along with the off-screen shenanigans of its stars, real or faux.

Stay tuned.

Note to Robert Pattinson: You managed to throw people off in the above quote, and it got printed. Duh.

Just saying.
