Robert Pattinson is hoping to put his days as a teenage heartthrob behind him with more mature roles. One of those roles is his dark character in the film, Cosmopolis. A trailer for the film was released earlier this week, and fans have gone wild. People who would normally shun a sparkly vampire are intrigued by Robert’s new role and are interested in seeing what he can really do.

Robert may get the chance to prove his talents to his fellow actors and industry execs at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. Various media outlets, including E! Online, are speculating the popular festival would be an ideal place for the film’s debut. The film has a release date of May 23rd. The festival will run from May 16 through the 27.

David Cronenburg’s adaptation of the book by Don DeLillo puts Robert Pattinson into the role of Eric Packer, a young man with too much money and a serious case of paranoia. According to the director, fans and critics will be thrilled with Robert’s performance. He states, “He’s a very serious actor. He wants to be great and takes the trouble to try and be great.”

The trailer shows a very different side of the Twilight actor, and Cronenburg is sure the question of Robert’s acting ability will be laid to rest after witnessing him in this dark, eccentric role.
