Ron Howard, who played Andy Griffith’s son Opie Taylor in the television series The Andy Griffith Show, says the late actor was a ‘mighty fine’ role model throughout his life.

According to a report from PerezHilton.com, Ron remembers Andy for his immense talent, too.

“The spirit he created on the set of The Andy Griffith Show was joyful and professional all at once. It was an amazing environment. His love of creating, the joy Profile Picturehe took in it whether it was drama or comedy or his music, was inspiring to grow up around,” Howard says.

Beyond the talent was a man who did what he believed was right, and respect was always of the utmost importance to him.

“He felt he was always working in service of an audience he really respected and cared about. He was a great influence on me,” Howard says.

It’s clear that Ron Howard has lost someone who was near and dear to him for a great many years. America has lost one of its television icons who exuded kindness and honesty–things not many of today’s TV role models portray. It’s likely that some of that talent and some of that goodness has rubbed off on Ron–and is so desperately needed in the today’s entertainment industry.
