Russell Brand on Katy Perry Split: Best Breakup ‘No Comment’ Ever

Like Russell Brand with regard to his breakup from Katy Perry, nearly every celebrity has uttered that ubiquitous “no comment” kind of comment when asked about such personal matters. But nobody has ever delivered this message with such finesse as this glib Brit just did.

He said to a reporter at the Television Critics Association winter press gathering when asked, bluntly, about his personal life:

I don’t want to further celebrate the overly elaborate, brittle plastic structures of nonsense that are constantly fired into our minds to distract us from what’s really important. So if I’d done something actually newsworthy… then I’d cover it. But if it was just more laquered nonsense, designed to distract us from truth, then I would wisely ignore it.

And with that retort, wordy and dramatic as it was, the articulate actor spoke. And when he spoke, he spoke in such a way that just perhaps the journalists who were asking him questions that were taboo and totally inappropriate in the arena (and probably in any arena) might just make history.

After all, Russell Brand’s retort to questions about his split from Katy Perry should forever be remembered as being the best “no comment” ever made by a luminary who is going through a tough time in his private life.

With that said, what do you think about what Russell Brand said? Do you think he was right to be so erudite about the question to which he offered his put-down in an answer about his current—and most likely painful—Katy Perry breakup? Thoughts?
