Have you ever thought you’d get to watch a Sara Bareilles live concert in your PJs? And contribute to a great cause in the same time? Sure you haven’t.

But on September 10, the versatile and talented singer/songwriter performed online through StageIt benefiting Playing For Change (PFC), an organization she’s been involved with from the beginning. PFC connects the world through music “by providing resources to musicians and their communities around the world.” Viewers worldwide paid to see this brilliant performance aired from a small studio in New York City, where Bareilles came for inspiration for her next record.

During the show, she was excited to be connected with her fans that sent her messages through Twitter and StageIt chat. After overcoming some minor sound issues in the beginning, she played a brand new song she wrote specifically for Playing for Change Day, a global music event to be held on September 22.

She encouraged viewers to be great tippers, but also thought of those who couldn’t afford to contribute: “Money is awesome, but positive vibes are totally welcome.”

Bareilles took requests from fans and played a series of ballads like “Bright Lights and Cityscapes” and “Only Shadows.” She approached “Love Song,” the hit she reached fame with, in a different way than her fans were used to, hit it with the peppy “King of Anything,” jazzed the soulful “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” and warmed everyone’s hearts ending the show with the beautiful beyond words “Gravity.”

Bareilles laughed at her StageIt virgin awkwardness, but despite the lack of a real audience to applaud, cheer and sing along, which she obviously missed, she promised to do more StageIt events in the future.

You can watch Sara Bareilles’ show on YouTube in case you missed it.
