Savannah Guthrie made her official debut as Matt Lauer’s Today Show co-anchor on Monday morning. She replaces Ann Curry, whose last day as co-anchor was over a week ago.

According to a report from Celebuzz, Matt Lauer announced her as his official co-anchor as The Today Show went on-air at 7:00 AM ET.

“After several years of playing a great role on this program, she takes a step forward this morning and joins us as co-anchor of TODAY,” he said. “Welcome to TODAY and we are thrilled to have you.”

“Great. Good morning. It’s an honor to be here,” she replied.

The network announced that Savannah Guthrie was taking Ann Curry’s place on June 29th—the day after Curry announced she was leaving The Today Show. NBC News President Steve Capus gushed about Guthrie, noting her significant contributions to the network since joining NBC several years ago.

“In just a few short years Savannah has become a standout member of the news division as well as the ultimate team player,” Capus says. “She’s anchored for Brian on NBC Nightly News, moderated for David on Meet the Press, co-hosted the 9 AM hour of TODAY, reported for Rock Center and Dateline, and provided legal insights in our Supreme Court Special Reports—and that was all within the last week!”

It’s clear that everyone is thrilled about Savannah Guthrie’s new role on The Today Show, except maybe those in Ann Curry’s corner. There are still lots of fans who feel she received the short end of the proverbial stick from NBC.

Do you think Savannah will be successful as Matt Lauer’s co-anchor on The Today Show?
