School closings in Atlanta, Georgia are expected to give kids the dayoff on Monday due to an approaching winter snow storm. 13WMAZ and Fox 5 Atlanta are predicting widespread snow accumulations, as the winter storm blankets most parts of Northern to Central Georgia. The governor has already declared a state of emergency.

A winter snow storm of epic proportions is predicted to turn the state of Georgia into a “treacherous mess” of snow and ice, as weather forecasters call on travelers to be extra vigilant. School closings will impact Monday’s business day, as parents and students await official word of closures in their districts.

According to 13WMAZ and other affiliate television stations across Georgia, the winter snow storm, particularly in Atlanta, will have an impact on road travel, business and school closings, and air travel travel. Hartsfield Airport is expected to experience monumental delays, as the approaching storm is expected to dump upwards of six inches of snow on the tarmac.

However, the biggest threat to the public’s safety, according to the Department of Transportation (DOT) is ice accumulations of at least one-quarter inch. As one representative said, snow can be plowed, but ice cannot.

As Atlanta and other parts of the state brace for the winter snow storm, county and city officials ask students and parents to tune in for Georgia school closings and business that elect to remain closed on Monday.
