Just six short days following the gunfire that ultimately led to the suicide of sophomore Colton Tooley at the University of Texas in Austin, another student is fatally shot on the North Carolina campus of Mid-Atlantic Christian University.  To further concerns regarding campus security, reports came in that an armed man had entered a restroom on the Brookhaven College campus in Farmers Branch, Texas on Monday as well.

What is plaguing the collegiate population to cause this rash of violence on campus?  According to CNN, “University officials say they believe the shooting was the result of a personal matter between two students.  The gunman turned himself into police after the shooting, and is reportedly cooperating with the investigation…”, regarding Monday’s Mid-Atlantic shooting.

Of the Brookhaven incident, My FOX Chicago reports, “Police were able to locate the suspect. He was transported to Parkland Hospital for a mental evaluation.”  Concluding the incident prior to any reported injuries.

Although, by all accounts, each university has responded commendably with campus-wide alert systems that advised students of the dangers on campus, preventative measures are sure to be the highlight of university talks in the coming months nationwide.  It may not be long before campuses are forced resort to metal detectors, and other screening devices to prevent the possession of weapons by students while on school grounds.
